The Kodak Pony camera series, designed by Arthur Crapsey, played a significant role in introducing amateur photographers to 35mm film in the late 1940s and beyond.

The Pony II, launched in 1957, is particularly noteworthy for its unique design features. It was equipped with a high-quality 44mm f/3.9 Anastar lens, but had a fixed shutter speed of approximately 1/60 second. Instead of traditional f-stops, the aperture settings were marked in Exposure Values (EV), which adds an interesting twist to its operation. The diamond-shaped aperture in front of the shutter was distinctive, and it contributed to the camera's quirky charm.

Despite its limitations, such as the lack of a light meter and fixed shutter speed, the Pony II offered an accessible entry point into 35mm photography for many users. Its production ran until 1962, marking the end of the Pony series, which had successfully bridged the gap between simple box cameras and more sophisticated photography equipment. The design philosophy of the Pony cameras emphasized ease of use while still delivering good image quality, making them a beloved choice among enthusiasts of that era.
