Football card traders and collectors commemorate Dan Marino's illustrious football career with his 1984 rookie card from Topps. During the 1984 NFL season, Marino, in only his second year with the Miami Dolphins, achieved his most prolific season, leading the team to a 12-4 record as their star quarterback. Known for his powerful arm and rapid release, Marino set numerous records that would stand for decades. In that season alone, he recorded 362 completions, 5,084 passing yards, and an impressive 48 touchdowns.

Throughout his career, Marino continued to break records, ultimately amassing 420 touchdown passes, 4,967 completions, 61,367 passing yards, and 83,580 attempts. His accomplishments include being the only quarterback to make the Pro Bowl in his rookie season. In 1984, Marino guided the Dolphins to Super Bowl XIX, facing off against fellow quarterback legend Joe Montana, although the Dolphins did not secure the victory, a moment of regret for Marino.

Under Marino's leadership, the Dolphins transformed from 19th to first in passing offense. Recognized for his achievements, Marino was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005, following his retirement before the 2000 season. His career averages of three touchdown passes and 318 yards per game underscore his enduring impact on the sport.

Topps, a prominent producer of NFL trading cards since 1956, features Marino's 1984 rookie card (number 123), showcasing a full-color photograph of Marino in his Dolphins uniform and helmet. The front of the card highlights Marino's AFC Pro Bowl status, his team affiliation with the Dolphins, and his role as quarterback. On the back, detailed statistics, physical attributes, draft information, college background, hometown, birth date, and NFL acquisition details are listed. Additionally, the card includes Marino's passing and rushing records from his draft year and his career totals, along with interesting football facts and key milestones from his career with the Dolphins.
